Questions
People Ask ...
What happens each Thursday evening?
Each session begins with a 30-40
minute presentation on one of 25 topics related to recovery
from separation and divorce. This is followed by a short snack
time for socializing. Participants then break into small groups,
each led by a trained leader, and answer prepared questions
related to the topic for the evening.
Who comes to the group?
Men
and women of all ages and lengths of separation are welcome.
Some have come the week of separation, or even before. Others
have attended five or more years after the divorce. Some people
come after ending a significant non-marriage relationship.
The average attendance is 20 people. There is a good balance
of men and women, those with children and those without.
What if I can't come every week?
Each
session is self-contained so you can begin or end the group
any time you want. As a drop-in group we welcome you to come
any time you can, for as many sessions as you want to come.
It is not uncommon for people to attend the group for a year
or longer. Significant growth is seen in those who attend
the group for at least six months. Each person decides how
long he/she wants to attend.
What
if I have a hard time talking in a group?
It's always hard to go into a new situation, with new people.
We respect people moving at their own speed when they feel
ready. No person is required to talk or share. The group is
always adding new people, so you'll only be "the new
one" on the first night!
Do you address the needs of single parents?
Some of our topics are especially geared to the needs of children,
parenting and co-parenting.
